Series History
Texas leads the all-time series 9–8–1 across 18 meetings dating back to 1896, but the two teams have never played as conference opponents. November 14, 2026 will be the first Texas–LSU game that counts in the SEC standings.
The most recent meeting was September 7, 2019 in Austin, where No. 6 LSU beat No. 9 Texas 45–38. Joe Burrow threw for 471 yards and four touchdowns and Justin Jefferson caught nine passes for 163 yards and three scores — a game now seen as the springboard for LSU’s 15–0 national championship season.
Before that the teams met mostly in bowls. Texas won the January 2003 Cotton Bowl 35–20; LSU won the January 1963 Cotton Bowl 13–0, ending a Texas season that had gone 9–0–1 in Southwest Conference play. Texas’s largest margin in the series was a 34–0 win in 1941.
What Sets This Matchup Apart
LSU enters 2026 under Lane Kiffin, hired on November 30, 2025 after Brian Kelly was fired in October. Tiger Stadium opened in 1924 and holds 102,321, making it the fifth-largest NCAA venue and second-largest in the SEC. It is known as Death Valley.
LSU began playing night games in 1931, and the split is stark: since 1960 the Tigers are 201–59–3 at night and 21–22–3 in the daytime. A crowd noise reading of 130 decibels was recorded against Florida in 2007, and the NCAA ranked Tiger Stadium the loudest venue in college football in 2013. In the 1988 Earthquake Game against Auburn, the crowd’s reaction to a last-second touchdown registered on a seismograph in the university’s geology building.
Mike the Tiger, LSU’s live mascot, is housed in an enclosure adjacent to the stadium. AT&T announced a $45 million technology and fan-experience upgrade to Tiger Stadium ahead of the 2026 season.

The first Texas–LSU meeting as SEC opponents, in one of the loudest stadiums in the sport, against a Lane Kiffin team in year one. If the game draws the night window, it becomes one of the harder road environments on Texas’s schedule.
