Game Notes

The Texas Longhorns and Kentucky Wildcats have faced each other twice on the football field, with Texas holding a 2–0 advantage in the series. Both matchups took place in Austin, Texas, and were separated by more than seven decades.

1951: A Defensive Battle in Austin
On September 22, 1951, No. 11 Texas hosted No. 6 Kentucky at Memorial Stadium. The Longhorns secured a narrow 7–6 victory, capitalizing on a missed extra point by the Wildcats. Texas quarterback T. Jones connected with Don Barton for a 13-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Kentucky responded in the third quarter with a six-yard touchdown pass from Babe Parilli to Bucky Gruner, but the failed PAT attempt proved decisive. Despite Kentucky outgaining Texas in total offense (287 yards to 183) and first downs (21 to 8), the Longhorns’ early score and defensive resilience sealed the win.

2024: Longhorns Dominate in SEC Matchup
The teams met again on November 23, 2024, in a Southeastern Conference game at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. Texas delivered a commanding performance, defeating Kentucky 31–14. Quarterback Quinn Ewers led the Longhorns with 333 passing yards and five touchdowns, including a scoring pass to Quintrevion Wisner. The victory extended Texas’s lead in the all-time series to 2–0.

With Texas’s move to the SEC, future matchups between these programs may become more frequent, adding new chapters to this budding rivalry.
