Series History
The series is tied 1–1, and both meetings have come since Oklahoma joined the SEC. There is no deeper history to draw on.
South Carolina won the first meeting 35–9 in Norman in October 2024, a 26-point margin that remains the largest in the series. Oklahoma answered a year later, winning 26–7 in Columbia on October 18, 2025.
Neither team has won at home in this series. 2026 will be the third meeting and South Carolina’s second trip to Norman.
What Sets This Matchup Apart
South Carolina finished 2025 at 4–8, 1–7 in the SEC, and missed a bowl. The Gamecocks started the season ranked 13th and climbed to 10th after beating Virginia Tech before losing seven of their next eight. Shane Beamer was retained for a sixth season. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers returned rather than enter the NFL Draft or the transfer portal. ESPN’s preseason poll has South Carolina 23rd; the SEC media poll picked them 11th.
Oklahoma went 10–3 in 2025 and made the College Football Playoff, with John Mateer back at quarterback and a defense that returns leading tackler Kip Lewis and sacks leader Taylor Wein.

Seating and Ticket Notes
Gaylord Family–Oklahoma Memorial Stadium holds 80,126, smaller than most of the SEC’s marquee venues, which keeps supply tighter than at Texas or Texas A&M. A late-October conference game against a team coming off a four-win season should still be among the more affordable dates on Oklahoma’s home schedule.
The lower west sideline gives the best sightlines. The south end zone student section is the loudest part of the stadium and generally not where visiting fans want to sit.
Atmosphere and Traditions
Gaylord Family–Oklahoma Memorial Stadium opened in 1923 and is known as the Palace on the Prairie. It is the largest sports venue in Oklahoma and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2024.
After every Oklahoma score the Sooner Schooner — a scaled-down Conestoga wagon pulled by the white ponies Boomer and Sooner — races across Owen Field. It was introduced in 1964, became the official mascot in 1980, and is operated by the RUF/NEKS spirit squad. The Pride of Oklahoma marching band plays “Boomer Sooner” throughout, and the O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A chant runs through the stands.
Final Thoughts
A Halloween kickoff in Norman against a South Carolina team looking to bounce back from a four-win season. The series is short — this is only the third meeting — and neither side has managed to win at home in it yet.
